"ANTIQUITATES de Falde et Coton, vulgo dictis Halfe Ham. lettes, in parochia de Hanbury iuxta Castellum de Tuttebury in comitatu Stafford: sive Exemplificatio scriptorum, cartaruin veteruin, et Rentaliuin probantium rectum et hæreditatem familiæ de Burton in quasdam terras et tenementa in predictis maneriis, et villis quibusdam adiacentibus; quæ singula scripta nunc sunt penes me Willelmum Burton de Falde modernum dominum eorundem. Labore et studio mei Willelmi Burton, Lindliani Leicestrensis, Apprenticii Legum Angliæ et socii Interioris Templi Londini, nunc habitantis apud Falde predict. 25 Aug. 1615: an: vet: 40: Qui liber est hæreditarius, hoe est vulgò an heireloome, soluinmodo spectans hæredi familiæ de Burton; quicuinque ideo abstulerit sive deformaverit anathema ei sit." In addition to the evidences, which are brought down by W. Burton to 1644, there are some fanciful portraits, ff. 74 b-76 b, coats of arms, and genealogies. There are also entered, ff. 69, 70, rentals of Cassibilan Burton, of Lindley, for 1645-1647, and, at f. 6, personal memoranda by him, 1649[50], 1659; and at ff. 3 b, 7 1, are some notes of the family by J [ohn] Burton of Holinsfield, co. Derby, 1723. At the beginning, f. 2 b, is a miniature portrait of William Burton, with this inscription: "This is the first draught of the picture of me W. Burton which was drawne with a cole by Mr. Fran: Deleram [Delaram] in London 1622: out of which he cutte the picture in coper which is priinted in my booke of the Description of Leicestershire." At the end, f. 92, are figures of "The Burnes [brands] or markes of those towneshippes yt claime comon in ye forest of Nedewoode, com: Staff:" (See also Add. 6046). Paper; ff. 92.
