COMMENTARY by Guido Pisano on the Inferno of Dante. Latin. At the beginning of the volume is the text of the Inferno with the title "Incipit prima cantica comedie excellentissimi poete Dantis alagherii floretini distincta per xxxiiij cantus." The Commentary, which begins at f. 30, is thus entitled: "Expositiones et glose super comediam Dantis facte per fratrem Guidonem Pisanum ordinis beate marie de monte carmelli ad nobilem uirum dominum Lucanum de Spinolis.de Janua." It is followed, f. 248, by the "Declaratio super profundissimam et altissimam comediain dantis facta per fratrem Guidonem pisanum ordinis beate marie de Carmelo ad nobilem virum dominum Lucanum de spinolis de Janua," in Italian terza rima, with marginal notes in Latin. The Commentary appears to have been written as early as the beginning of the 14th century, or at least before the destruction of the Ponte Vecchio it Florence, in 1333, reference being made (f. 108, col. 2), in the comment on canto xiii., l. 146, to the bridge as still in existence. Colomb (le Batines, Bibliografia Danitesca, vol. II., p. 299, mentions only one MS. of Guido Pisano's Commentary, that in the Archinto Library at Milan. Paper; ff. 253. In double columns; XVth cent. From the Sunderland Library. Large Folio.
