ff. 1r–52v: Gabriel Harvey's commonplace book. A closely written octavo volume, it contains extracts from ancient and contemporary authors (such as Cicero and Sir Hugh Platt), and observations in Latin, English, Italian and Greek on a variety of topics.
These include wisdom (f. 26r, 'no wiseman offendith twice in on thing'); happiness ('happy is he, that is seruant to the happy'), and love (f. 25v, 'he rulith most in Venus Court, that servith his Lady best.')
