"LIBELLUS Seu tractatus qui intitulatur Vitas Fratrum": anecdotes of St. Dominic and of members of the order of Dominicans, compiled by "Gerardus Lemovicensis" [Gérard de Frachet], Prior Provincial of Provence, at the command of Humbert [de Romans], General of the order [1254-1263], in accordance with a resolution of a General Chapter held at Paris in 1256. The work is divided into five parts: "de pertinentibus ad inchoationem ordinis," "multa de beato Dominico, quæ in legenda ipsius non habentur," "de Mag. Jordane" [second General, 1222-1237], "de progressu fratrum," "de egressu fratrum de hoe mundo." It is preceded (f. 69) by an introductory epistle of Humbert de Romans, and concludes (f. 195 b) with a brief chronicle of the order from 1203 to 1254. At the beginning of the volume, in the same hand as the above, are the following articles:-
1. Lessons from the Gospels and other matter relating to St. John Baptist, including sermons of St. John Chrysostom, St. Augustine, St. Maximus and St. Bernard. ff. 1-37 b.
2. "Testamenta xii. patriarcharum filiorum Jacob"; translated from the Greek by Robert Grossetête, Bishop of Lincoln (cf. Roy. MS. 4 D. vii. f. 232 b). ff. 38-68 b. At the end (f. 200 b) is added, in a 15th cent. hand, a Life of St. Vincent Ferrier [ob. 1419], beg. "B. Vincentius ex Valencia civitate clarissima Hyspariæ." Vellum; ff. 204. XIVth cent. With a few illuminated borders and initials enclosing miniatures. On f. 1, in a hand of the 15th cent. "Iste liber est sororum eccl. beati Ludouici de Pissiaco" [Poissy] and on f. 204 (formerly bound tip at the beginning) in a 17th cent. hand: " Ex bibliotheca fratrum prædicatorum de Pisciaeo." Folio.
