'Cupid and Death: a Masque by J[ame]s Shirley, 1653.' Presented before the Portuguese Ambassador, on the 26th of March of that year. The music by Matthew Lock and [Christopher] Gibbons. The characters are a Host, a Chamberlain, Cupid, Folly, Madness, Despair, Death, Nature, a Lover, Two Old Men and Women, a Satyr, Mercury and a 4-part chorus.
Vol. II contains: (a) A copy made apparently by Edward Jones [bard to the Prince of Wales], in, or soon after, 1816 (watermark). ff. 1-28; — (b) A modern arrangement of the first Entry, or scene, for horns, flutes, oboes, bassoons, and strings, in score [by Sir Henry Rowley Bishop], ff. 29-41.
