'DIALOGUS MIRACULORUM' OF CAESARIUS OF HEISTERBACH: a translation of Distinctiones vii-xii made by Johann Hartlieb (fl. 1433-1477), at the request of Hans Püterich, burgher of Munich; late 15th cent. German. Origin: Germany. Incipits and chapter headings in Latin. Translator's prologue beg. 'Hye hebt sich an die vorred', f. 1. Author's prologue beg. 'zw tewsch als vil gesprochen', f. 1v. The translation ends (f. 242v) with a prayer. Printed from this unique manuscript under the title Johann Hartliebs Übersetzung des Dialogus Miraculorum von Caesarius von Heisterbach, ed. K. Drescher, Deutsche Texte des Mittelalters, xxxiii (1929). See also Cat. Romances, iii (1910), pp. 368-369 and R. Priebsch, Deutsche Handschriften in England, ii (1901), pp. 89-90. An exemplum in German has been added in a 17th? cent. hand, ff. 242v-243. A partly erased ex libris? and pressmark 'S.B. 12' appear in 18th cent. hands, f. 1. Owned, early 19th cent., by Baron Karl Marie Erenbert von Moll, councillor to the King of Bavaria. Purchased with part of Baron Moll's library in 1815.
Paper; ff. 243. Sec. fol. 'junckfrawlikait aw geaigent'. 275 x 185mm. Gathering counting was not possible owing to tightness of binding. Single columns. One neat German cursive book script. Initials and chapter headings in red. Watermark: a mont.
