CLAUDIAN: poems of Claudius Claudianus (fl. 400 A.D.); mid - late 13th cent. Latin. Origin: France? All the items appear in Claudii Claudiani Carmina, ed. J. Koch (1893), which uses Egerton MS. 2627 as a main source. For a modern edition see that of J. B. Hall (Teubner, 1985). See also J. B. Hall's article in L. D. Reynolds, ed., A Survey of the Latin Classics (1983), pp. 143-145. Loss of text between ff. 112v-113, 113v-114, as follows: Deprecatio ad Hadrianum, after line 31, f. 112v;- Phoenix, bef. line 31, f. 113;- Nilus, bef. line 12, f. 114. Marginals and interlineations in contemporary cursive hands. The manuscript belonged to St Augustine's abbey, Canterbury, pressmark D.XI.G.II cum A (f. 1), and appears as one of three copies of Claudian in the late 15th cent. catalogue of the library of St Augustine's, Trinity College Dublin MS. 360. See the edition of this catalogue, ed. M. R. James, The Ancient Libraries of Canterbury and Dover (1903), no. 1444, pp. 365, 521. ff. 24v-112v. Single columns. One gothic book script throughout, possibly French. Headings in red, initials in red and blue penwork.
