TRACTS, ETC., CONCERNING THE FALL OF CONSTANTINOPLE: composed in or soon after 1453; late 15th cent. (1453- circa 1480). Origin: Italy. Latin. See Bibliotheca Manuscripta ad S. Marci Venetiarum, Codices MSS. Latini, vi (1873), Cod. 336, where the first two tracts occur. Owned, late 15th-early 16th cent., by Antonio Pizamano, Venetian humanist, Bishop of Feltre 1504-1512, see f. 37v, 'Domini Antonii Pizamani Doctoris'. Purchased according to Departmental records, from whom, and at what date, not specified.
Vellum; ff. 37. The figure '36' probably a reference to foliation, is written in a 17th? cent. hand, f. 37 recto, and also inside the back board. Early 19th cent. foliation, possibly carried out in the British Museum. Sec. fol. 'et pro demeritis meis'. 213 x 140mm. Gatherings: i-ii12, iii10 (lacks 8-10), iv12 (lacks 1-5, 12). Lacks end papers and fly-leaves. Single columns. Two humanist cursive scripts, probably Venetian: A. articles 1 and 2; B. art. 3. Art. 2 begins on quire iii (f. 25); art. 3 begins in middle of quire iv (f. 32) following five stubbs. Headings and capitals in red. Historiated initials, ff. 1, 25. Contemporary blind-stamped brown leather binding on boards, originally with metal studs and clasps, of which only the back clasp and two small studs on the front cover remain.

3. ff. 32-37v. Mass for divine aid against the Turks, composed by Bernard of Venice, Bishop of Cattaro in Dalmatia; 1453. Bernard was Bishop of Cattaro from Nov. 1453-1457. Colophon: 'Orate pro Bernardo ellecto Catharenij qui devote composuit' (f. 37v).
