WARDROBE ACCOUNTS FOR AQUITAINE: accounts of Nicholas Huggate, who acted as Keeper of the King's Wardrobe in Aquitaine; [1 March 1324-31 May 1326]. Latin. Origin: England. The accounts cover receipts and expenses, in particular wages of troops and sailors. On the accession of Edward III, Huggate was appointed Controller of the King's Wardrobe in England. Owned by Thomas Martin, antiquary (d. 1771), whose signature appears, f. i verso. Signature 'John Smith' occurs, late 18th cent, f. i. Subsequently owned by Craven Ord, see heraldic bookplate, f. i verso. Bound at the front of the volume are memoranda by Ord concerning the volume, ff. iv-v. Purchased with Add. 7965, 7966 and 7968 at Craven Ord's sale, Evans, 25 Jan. 1830, lot 1006.
Vellum and paper; ff. v+112+9*+74*. Old foliation in pencil from f. 1, foot rectos. 315 x 220mm. Gatherings generally of 8 (i lacks 8, iii lacks 5-8, xi lacks 6, 7, xiv lacks 7, 8), v6(lacks 4-6), xv6, xvii4, xviii6(stubbs except for 4, 5). Six quires are marked I-VI (from quire vi, f. 30). Catchwords from f. 37v (quire vi). Single columns. Documentary cursive script.
