HISTORICAL COMPENDIUM OF THE LIVES OF THE ROMAN EMPERORS AND POPES; 1585. Italian. The MS., which is dated (f. 135) 28 Oct. 1585, contains a chronological, historical summary of the lives of the Roman emperors, popes and other prominent men from Julius Caesar to Emperor Rudolf II, inc. ‘In questo trattato scriveremo la vita delli Imperadori Romani’ (f. 5), expl. ‘a cui successe Ridolfo pure secondo di tal nome’. The text, which is preceded by chronological (ff. 2-3) and alphabetical (ff. 3v-4v) indexes of the emperors, is divided into three parts. The first covers Julius Caesar to Constantius Chlorus and Galerius, and St. Peter to Pope Miltiades (ff. 5-30v), the second covers Constantine I to Nicephorus I, and Pope Sylvester I to Leo III (ff. 31-62v), and the third covers Charlemagne to Rudolf II, and Pope Stephen V to Sixtus V (ff. 62v-135).
