COLLECTION of miscellaneous tracts, historical accounts, and letters relating to the history of the Roman Church and political affairs in 16th- and 17th-cent. Europe; circa 1554-1695. Italian, Latin, and French. Table of contents (ff. 1-2v). 'D.V.7' and 'LXXVIII' in pencil, and stamp 'biblioth / h.f. / J770' on f. i: identifiable with Falconieri MS. 78 in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 26v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '290' in pencil at center of f. i. Purchased, together with Add. 8282-8285, 8287-8289, 8344, 8358, 8433, 8688, 8788, and possibly 8416, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 290 (part).

Italian. Copy. Inc. 'Al Reverendissimo Padre Abate Don Angelo Grillo General Presidente della Congregazione Cassinense / Io non raguagliai Vostra Paternità Reverendissima della morte del Signor Cardinale d'Ascoli'. 'Michaeli Angelo Riccio purpuram renuenti Carolus Joannes a Jesu Caeleste lumen p.', discourse by Carolus Joannes a Jesu address to Michelangelo Ricci (1619-1682), mathematician, persuading him to accept the cardinal's hat; 1681.
