The MS. includes: - (a) art. 1, a chronicle of European events 1558-1559; - (b) art. 5, a bull of Paul IV relating to the assignment of the Duchy of Paliano to his nephew Giovanni Carafa; - (c) art. 7 (ff. 83-224v), letter-book of Cardinal Carlo Carafa; - (d) art. 8 (ff. 225-291), instructions to and from Cardinal Carlo Carafa and his brother Giovanni Carafa, dispatched by Ottaviano Raverta, Bishop of Terracina, circa 1558; - (e) art. 9 (ff. 230-253), papal instructions from Paul IV to Cardinal Carlo Carafa. Other collections containing texts related to Pope Paul IV and his nephews Carlo and Giovanni Carafa in Add. 8262, 8270, 8271, 8295, 16397, and 16445. Old foliation in ink '1-333' (ff. 2-323), including blanks after f. 63, and pagination of f. 42v and following blanks, omitting no. 161. Composite volume. 255 x 210mm. Most items with horizontal catchwords on each leaf. Several Italian hands. Late 17th-cent. Italian binding of full vellum.
