LII' in pencil in upper right corner of f. i, and '496' in ink in fifth spine compartment: identifiable with Mattei MS. 496 (vol. 52 of 'Memorie diverse') in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 23v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '103' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8294-8303, 8305, 8307-8314, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 103 (part).

2. ff. 188-284v. 'Consiglio del Deciano per il Duca di Ferrara nella causa di Precedenza', legal advice relating to precedence between the Duke of Ferrara [probably Alfonso II d'Este] and Cosimo I de' Medici, Duke of Florence by Tiberio Deciani of Udine (1509-1582), professor of law at Padua University, also known as Deciano; circa 1569-1574 (mentioning Cosimo I on f. 189). Latin. Copy. Inc. 'Domino illuminatio mea / Quanquam adeo erudite, eleganter, ac copiose fuerit'.
3. ff. 285-308v. 'Conseglio del Salerno per il Duca di Fiorenza nella medesima causa di precedenza / D.O.M.A.' with 'cons. 136' added to the right, further legal advice relating to precedence between the Dukes of Florence and Ferrara; n.d.
