MISCELLANEOUS COLLECTION of relazioni, instructions, and political tracts relating to the Papacy, Urbino, France, England and Spain; circa 1615-1633. Italian. Copies. The MS. includes (art. 5, ff. 122-130) a political tract in favour of the marriage between Charles Prince of Wales, son of King James I of England, and the Infanta Maria Anna, daughter of King Philip III of Spain. The negotiations for the marriage started in 1615, but ended in 1624 after the visit to Madrid of Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham in 1623. Table of contents (f. 1), added later. Old signatures 'Tom. LXXXIII' in pencil in upper right corner of f. i, and '527.' in ink in fourth spine compartment: identifiable with Mattei MS. 527 (vol. 83 of 'Materie diverse') in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 24. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '106' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8315-8316, 8318-8332, 8346, and 8347, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 106 (part).

2. ff. 37-66. Relazione of Urbino offered to Pope Gregory XV during the reign of the last Duke Federico Ubaldo (1621-1623), before his father Francesco Maria II della Rovere ceded the Duchy to the Papacy; circa 1621-1623. Italian. Copy. Inc. 'Beatissimo Principe / Lo Stato di Urbino è situato, com'è noto alla Riva del Mare Adriatico'.
3. ff. 67-90. 'Discorso sopra la comprotettione di Francia', political discourse relating to the negotiations between the Holy See and the French ambassador Charles I de Blancheforte, Duc de Créqui, relating to the Valtelline; [1633]. Italian. Copy. Inc. 'Una delle raggioni per le quali par conveniente che nel n[overo] de Cardinali siano di tutte le nationi'.
4. ff. 91-121. 'Giuditio d'un gentil huomo anonimo sopra li presenti motivi di guerra al Signor Cardinale Zolleri', anonymous political tract relating to the Valtelline and Chiavenna offered to Cardinal Eitel Friedrich de Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen; 1625. Italian. Copy. Inc. (f. 92) 'Illustrissimo Signore / Vostra Signoria Illustrissima mi va così bel bello sempre ricercando di quelle cose', expl. 'tanto li bagio di buon cuore le mani. Di Roma il 25 di gennaro dell'anno 1625 ... J. J. G. l'Anonimo'. Another copy in Add. 48120 (Yelverton MS. 135; art. 22, ff. 254-264v), without the name of the dedicatee.
5. ff. 122-130. 'Considerationi dalle quali si conosce dover esser utile il Matrimonio del Prencipe Inglese con l'Infanta di Spagna alla Religione Cattolica', tract in favour of the marriage between Charles Prince of Wales, son of King James I of England, and the Infanta Maria Anna, daughter of King Philip III of Spain; circa 1615-1623.
