MISCELLANEOUS COLLECTION of relazioni and memorials relating to Rome, Spain, Germany, and Portugal; circa 1634-1640. Italian, Spanish and Latin. Copies. The MS. also includes (arts. 7-8) three texts relating to oneiromancy or dream interpretation. Two frontispieces with pen decoration (ff. 309, 323). Table of contents (f. 1), added later by same hand as in Add. 8322 and 8324. Old signatures in pencil 'Tom. LXXXVI' in lower right corner of f. i, and '530' in ink in fourth spine compartment: identifiable with Mattei MS. 530 (vol. 86 of 'Materie diverse') in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 24. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '106' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8317-8319, 8321-8332, 8346, and 8347, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 106 (part).

'Relatione del Principe Ecchembergh Ambasciatore straordinario dell'Imperatore molto particolare, intorno a tutto quello ch'in Roma è successo...', followed by a later note 'Questo scritto non è dell'Autor dela relatione', relazione of the visit to Rome of the Imperial Ambassador extraordinary Prince Johann Anton I von Eggenberg, Duke of Crumau, to inform Urban VIII of the election of the Emperor Ferdinand III; [1638]. 'Relatione del negotiato fatto da Monsignor Castracani, Vescovo di Nicastro, Collettore in Portogallo, e dal Vescovo di Sinigaglia Nuntio in Madrid, per conservare alle Chiese di quel regno i beni lasciategli da fedeli Christiani, con obbligo di messe ... e de gli accidenti occorsi sino all'espulsione del medesimo Collettore dal Regno', relazione of the contrasts between Portugal and the Papacy when Alessandro Castracani, Bishop of Nicastro, was papal nuncio to Portugal (1634-1640), and Lorenzo Campeggi, Bishop of Sinigaglia, papal nuncio to Spain (1634-1639): the contrasts caused the expulsion of Castracani from Portugal in 1640; circa 1640. Spanish. Copy. Inc. (f. 82) 'Beatissimo Padre / Por responder a Vuestra Sanctidad con entero conocimiento de causa'. With old foliation '69-1008 [i.e. 108]' (ff. 81-116 and four following blanks).

Spanish and Italian. Copies. Title (f. 124) 'Memorial de Su Magestad Catolica que dieron a nuestro muy Santo Padre Urbano Papa VIII Don Fray Domingo Pimentel Obispo de Cordova y Don Juan Chumacero y Carillo de Consejo y Lamar en la embajada a que vinieron el año de 1633 incluso en el otro que presentaron los Reynos de Castilla Juntos en Cortes el año antecedente sobre diferentes agravios que reciben en las expediciones de Roma de que piden reformacion', inc. (f. 125) 'Muy Santo Padre / Luego que entre en la sucession destos mis Reynos puse todo el cuydado posibile'; title (f. 174) 'Respuesta que entregò Monseñor Maraldi Secretario de breves de orden de Su Sanctidad en satisfaccion a los Capitulos referidos. [Madrid?]: [s.n.], [1635?], B.L. copies 1609/1042 and 5107.bb.4.(1); another edition, B.L. copy 5107.bb.5. The MS. copies follow the double division of the printed texts into chapters and paragraphs. (f. 324) 'A / Annello vedere Invidia significa'; title (f. 332) 'Effetti de sogni che si fanno in tutto l'año cominciando dal primo giorno del mese sino l'ultimo del Medesimo', inc. 'I Sogni che in questo di saranno fatti, minacciano l'effetto in male'. With old foliation '2003 [i.e. 204] -214'.

Four Italian hands, of which: - (a) arts. 1-3; - (b) arts. 4 and 6; - (c) arts. 7-8. Late 17th-cent. Italian binding of full vellum, with red edges, similar to the bindings on Add. 8322 and 8324.
