MISCELLANEOUS COLLECTION of relazioni and other political papers relating to Spain, Naples, Liguria, Rome, France and the Empire; circa 1646-1667. Italian and Latin. Copies. Among other things the collection contains (arts. 8-15) relazioni and a satirical tract relating to the death of Pope Alexander VII, on 22 May 1667, and the conclave for the election of Clement IX, elected on 20 June 1667. Table of contents (ff. 1-1v), added later. Ink drawing in the lower margin of f. 2. Old signature 'Tom. CIII' in pencil in upper right corner of f. i and possibly '547' completely erased from fifth spine compartment: identifiable with Mattei MS. 547 (vol. 103 of 'Materie diverse') in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 24v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '107' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8334, 8335, 8336, 8337, 8342, 8345, 8348, 8349, 8350, 8351, 8352, 8360, and 8812, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 107 (part).

'Oratio Caroli Quinti', three addresses to the Emperor Charles V from his generals Alfonso d'Avalos d'Aquino, Marquis of Vasto, Hernando Alarcon and Antonio de Leva, urging the Emperor to initiate war against Suleiman I; circa 1529. Latin. Copy, 17th cent. Inc. (f. 3) 'Post debellatos potentissimos reges'. Preceded by (f. 2) 'Proemium / Exacto proxime seculo Solimanus'. With note 'originale' in upper left corner.
2. ff. 24-52. 'Brevissima relazione delle curiosità più degne e memorande della Città di Napoli ... fatta l'anno 1667', relazione of Naples; 1667. Italian. Copy. Inc. (f. 25) 'E' situata l'amenissima e deliziosa città di Napoli'.

Latin. Copy. Inc. 'Quod matrimonium huiusmodi perfici debeat', expl. 'Carolus Ludovicus Elector'. The marriage never took place: in 1668 Benedicte Henriette married duke Johann Friedrich (1625-1679) of Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg (Hanover) and had three daughters, while Charles died childless (and unmarried?) in 1685.
