POLITICAL ADVICE AND RELAZIONI relating to the Papal Court and Spain; circa 1659-1660. Italian. Copies. The MS. includes anonymous and undated political advice (art. 1) to an unnamed Cardinal-Nepote on how to ingratiate the College of Cardinals, the relazione of Spain (art. 2) presented by the ambassador Domenico Zane to the Venetian Senate in 1659, and the relazione of Rome (art. 3) presented to the Venetian Senate by Angelo Correr in 1660. Table of contents (f. 1), added later. Old signature 'Tom. CIV' in pencil in upper right corner of f. i and '54[8]' in fourth spine compartment: identifiable with Mattei MS. 548 (vol. 104 of 'Materie diverse') in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 24v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '107' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8333, 8335, 8336, 8337, 8342, 8345, 8348, 8349, 8350, 8351, 8352, 8360, and 8812, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 107 (part).
