MISCELLANY relating to the dispute between Popes Pius VI (1775-1799) and Pius VII (1800-1823) and Napoleon I; circa 1798-1816. Italian, French, and Latin. Copies and drafts. The MS. also includes a relazione (art. d. below) of Napoleon's campaign in Russia. Other papers relating to the dispute between the Papacy and Napoleon in Add. 8384, 8387, 8388, 8389, and 8390. The MS. is entitled (f. 1) 'Miscellaneo di varie carte relative alla deportazione di Pio VII e di altri &&&'. Paper; ff. 355, plus 58 unfoliated blanks throughout. Modern foliation in pencil '1-347' (followed here), repeating nos. 182-191 after f. 191, and omitting nos. 195, 290. Old pagination in ink 'i-xxviii' (ff. 192-206v). Composite volume. 310 x 215mm. At least three hands: the main hand (ff. 1-326) is the same as in Add. 8384, 8387 (ff. 2-31), 8388, 8389 (ff. 2-20, 51-60, 64-67v) and 8390: possibly Louis Cereghelli. Early 19th-cent. binding of full vellum, possibly made for Guilford.
