CIX' in upper right corner of f. i: identifiable with Mattei MS. 553 (vol. 109 of 'Materie diverse') in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 24v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '107' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8333, 8334, 8335, 8336, 8337, 8342, 8345, 8348, 8349, 8350, 8352, 8360, and 8812, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 107 (part).

'Avvertimenti / Posti in discorso per instruire a saper ben governare la Città e stato di Milano fatto ad instanza del Duca d'Alva nuovo Governatore in quello stato', relazione of Milan written at the request of Don Fernando Alvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alva and Governor of Milan (1555-1556); 1555. Italian. Copy. Inc. (f. 2) 'E' talmente Vostra Eccellenza esercitata ne i maneggi de gli affari publici'.
2. ff. 39-88v. 'Lettera di confidenza scritta in cifra dalla Maestà di Filippo Quarto Re delle Spagne al Vicere di Napoli tradotta dallo Spagnolo in Italiano', letter in cipher from Philip IV of Spain to Iñigo Velez de Guevara, Conde de Oñate, de Taxis y de Villamediana, Viceroy of Naples; circa 1648-1653.
