POPE JULIUS III: register of letters of Pope Julius III (1551-1555); 2nd half of 18th cent. Copy. Italian. The register of letters from Pope Julius III and his Secretary of State is divided into two sections. The first (ff. 2-226v) contains approximately 100 letters, dated 10 April 1551 to 23 Jan. 1554, copied in one hand, and relating to European wars and diplomacy and to ecclesiastical business. The second section (ff. 228-483), in another hand, contains approximately 300 letters, dated 7 July 1552 to 22 February 1555, partly relating to the wars in Siena. The title-page of the first section (f. 1) has 'B' in ink in the upper right corner and the title-page of the second section (f. 227) has 'C' in the same position. '87' in pencil in upper left corner of f. i. Purchased from R. H. Evans, 8 December 1830, possibly lot 87 (part), together with Add. 8391-8393, 8721, 8722, 8723-8724, possibly 8589 and 8727.
