REGISTER of anonymous letters from Rome; 1718-1727. Italian. Copy. Incomplete. The collection of letters originally consisted of three books. The third book is now missing. The remaining two books respectively contain letters covering the period 17 Dec. 1718 - 18 April 1722 (book i, ff. 1-80v), and 5 May 1722 - 19 Aug. 1724 (book ii, ff. 181-160v). Title (f. 1) 'Raccolta di lettere di Roma, dall'anno 1719 fino al corrente anno 1727'. Inc. 'Libro primo / Roma, li 17 dicembre 1718 / Delle cose di Melazzo per quanto portano le lettere delli 13 da Napoli', expl. (f. 160v) 'che sia mandato a Napoli per farlo castigare come merita del suo delitto. E sono etc. / Segue un terzo libro de detti ragguagli o Lettere'. Armorial bookplate of 5th Earl of Guilford, with shelfmark 'L/20/D' (front pastedown). '556' in pencil in upper left corner of f. i verso. Paper; ff. 160+iv. Two sets of old foliation in ink, one for each book of letters: '1-80' (ff. 1-80), '1-80' (ff. 81-160). 208 x 148mm. One Italian hand. 18th-cent. Italian binding of full vellum, with decorated paper pastedown and contiguous flyleaves.
