Preface (ff. 2-3) 'Introduzione / Sembrava che il caduto secolo fosse stato così copioso', inc. (f. 4) 'Viaggio di Pio VII a Parigi / Il Senatus Consulto organico dei 28 fiorile anno 12 (18 maggio 1804)', expl. (f. 161v) 'durante lo spoglio nelle tempeste della passata rivoluzione'. Including poems dedicated to the Pope on his passage through Pistoia: - (a) ff. 31-32v, an elegy in Latin, inc. 'Ergo qui Sanctis moderatur Legibus orbem / Pastorem his dabitur coernere luminibus?'; - (b) ff. 37-37v, sonnets in Italian, inc. 'Qual d'orgoglio e d'ardir folle congiura', inc. 'Per il passaggio di Sua Santità da Pistoia, / Non già invocando le Pierie Suore'. With occasional footnotes and corrections. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '96' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8339, 8385, 8387, 8388, 8390, and possibly 8389, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 96 (part).
Paper; ff. 161+iv, plus three unfoliated blanks after f. 3. 308 x 214mm. One Italian hand, the same hand as in Add. 8339 (main hand), 8387 (ff. 2-31v), 8388, 8389 (ff. 2-20, 51-60, 64-67v), and 8390: possibly Louis Cereghelli (see Add. 8389). Early 19th-cent. Italian binding of full vellum.
