The relazione of Rome by Antonio Grimani, Venetian Ambassador at Rome from 1667 to 1671 during the papacies of Clement IX (1667-1669) and Clement X (1670-1676). Other copies in Add. 8399 (art. 4, ff. 212-326), 10157, 16518 (ff. 364-410v). Published as Relatione della Corte di Roma del Grimani in Li tesori della Corte Romana in varie relazioni fatte in Pregadi d'alcuni Ambasciatori Veneti, Residenti in Roma, sotto differenti Pontefici, e dell'Almaden, Ambasciator Francese (Brussels, 1672), pp. 411-544, B.L. copy 10136.de.20; the text differs from the relazione published by Barozzi - Berchet, s. iii, v. ii (Venice, 1878), pp. 345-370. Title (f. 1) 'Relatione della Corte di Roma del Cavagliere Antonio Grimani Ambasciatore Veneto a Clemente Nono'. Inc. (f. 2) 'Eccomi Serenissimo Principe apparecchiato a pagar il solito tributo di riverenza', expl. (f. 89v) 'gliene leva la commodità / Il Fine'. Old shelfmark in brown ink (slightly faint) '123' in fifth spine compartment: identifiable with Mattei MS. 123 in Guilford's catalogue Add. 8220, f. 30v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '336' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8341, 8354, 8400, 8484 and 8591, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 336 (part).
