Paper; ff. 261+iv, plus 7 unfoliated interleaved blanks throughout the volume (three after f. 37, one after ff. 57, 128, 141, 174). Modern foliation in pencil '1-261' (followed here); two sequences of old foliation in ink: (i) (in top right corner) '33-312', foliating blanks, duplicating '83' and omitting '142-147' and '241-245' (corresponding to missing lives of Julius II (art. 11) and Paul IV (art. 17) respectively, and (ii) (bottom margin) '1-26' (arts. 1-2), '82-321' (arts. 3-20). In addition the accounts and lives (treated separately) are numbered in sequence in ink in upper margin of rectos '1-2' (arts. 1-2) and '10-40' (arts. 3-20). Composite volume. Circa 302 x 207mm. Horizontal catchwords. One Italian hand responsible for arts 1-12, 13 (account of life only), 14-20, another for the account of the conclave only in art. 13. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards.
