One full-page woodcut portrait of Innocent IX (f. 1v) is prefaced to the account of the conclave which elected him. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '87' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Paper; ff. 367+v, plus single unfoliated blanks following ff. 14, 88, 164, 273. Modern foliation in pencil '1-367' (followed here); other sequences of old foliation and pagination throughout volume. Arts. 6-8 belong to a single old foliated sequence '44-145'. The main series of accounts of (five) conclaves included, with some misbinding, in this volume and described in art. 1 (Innocent IX to Gregory XV) is all in the same Italian hand and paginated in a separate sequence throughout ('161-498'). Composite volume. Circa 270 x 195mm. Horizontal catchwords in sequence comprising art. 1. Several Italian hands. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards.

'Concordia serenissima Ducis Urbini cum Reverendam Cameram Apostolicam, 1624, die 30 aprilis', the text of the agreement between Francesco Maria II, Duke of Urbino, and Urban VIII, following the assassination of the Duke's son Federico Ubaldo in 1624, in which the administration of Urbino was transferred to a papal governor, and, after the Duke's own death in 1631, its territory was ceded to the Holy See and became part of the Papal States; 1624.
