Paper; ff. 382 [i.e. 383]+iii. Modern foliation in pencil '1-382' (followed here), omitting leaf between '160' and '161'; other older sequences of foliation and pagination indicated in articles. Composite volume. Circa 270 x 190mm. Several Italian hands. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards.

An account of the political situation in the Sacred College and the potential 'papabili' in anticipation of the death of Clement X and the conclave to elect his successor, to be dated possibly to 1672, as the text refers to the Pope having reached the age of eighty-two, which he did in this year, although he in fact lived on until 1676 (Pastor, History of the Popes, vol. 32, p. 1, n. 2, refers to a Vatican Library MS., Barb. 4673, dating from 1672, possibly to be identified with this text: 'Discorso dell'anno 1672 sopra l'elettione del futuro pontefice'); 1672. Italian, Copy. Inc. 'L'età si può dir cadente del Papa', expl. 'di chi mi ha comandato questa poca fattica in considerare l'evento del felicissimo conclave'. Marked (f. 2) 'Q'.
