'DIARIA RERUM ROMANORUM' of Stefano Infessura and Chronicle of the papacy and events in Rome; 1294-1494 and 1521-1561. Latin and Italian. Copies, late 17th or early 18th cent. The present manuscript is listed in Palma di Cesnola, no. 1548, p. 122. '341' in pencil towards upper right of first flyleaf. Purchased, together with Add. 8431, 8435 and 8436, from R. H. Evans, 8 December 1830, lot 341 (part).
1. ff. 1-193v. 'Diaria Rerum Romanorum' of Stefano Infessura, 1294-1494. Latin and Italian. Inc. 'Nell' Anno Domini 1294 nella vigilia di Natale', expl. 'per andare à Campo ad Ostia'. Further details of this work, the published edition and other MSS. of the diary are included in the description of Add. 8431. This text belongs to 'class 2' of the manuscripts of the diary.
2. ff. 194-233v. Chronicle of the papacy and events in Rome from the death of Leo X to the reign of Pius IV, 1521-1561. Italian. Inc. 'Ad primo Decembre 1521 fù de Domenica', expl. 'li depositi delli Corpi morti in alto dalle Chiese'.
Paper; ff. 233. 307 x 215mm. Left and right margins ruled with folds. Watermarks of a fleur-de-lis, somewhat similar to Haewood, Watermarks, 1609 (A.D. 1620 or after) but with 'G' above, and a bird somewhat similar to Haewood, Watermarks, 165 (circa A.D. 1670-1680), but with 'N' rather than a star above. Full vellum binding over pasteboards, late 17th or early 18th cent.
