DIARIES OF MARTINELLI BIAGIO DA CESENA; 1518-1540. Latin. Copy, 17th cent. Biagio da Cesena was Master of Ceremonies at the Papal Court. His two-volume diary covers the papacies of Leo X, Adrian VI, Clement VII and Paul III. Add. 8446 is listed in Palma di Cesnola, no. 1553, p. 122. Extracts of Biagio da Cesena's diary published in J. B. Gatticus, Acta Caeremonialia Sactae Romaae Ecclesiae (Rome, 1753), pp. 318-329, 385-391, 425, 440-447, 477, 479-480, (BL copy 16. e. 11). Add. 26808 and 26809 are other copies of the text. Other copies are Rome, Vatican Library, Cod. Barb., Lat. 2799 and Cod. Lat. 12547. Old shelfmark in ink '52', in lower left corner of front pastedown of Add. 8445. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '342' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedowns. Purchased, together with Add. 8439-8444, from R. H. Evans, 10 Dec. 1830, lot 342 (part).
