Report to the Grascia, the board in charge of the quality and price of provisions to the Papacy, relating to the Company of Butchers at Rome and to the lambing season of 1792, during the papacy of Pius VI (1775-1799). Title (f. 1) 'Alla Sagra Congregazione deputata a Santissimo sopra li affari della Grascia, Fogli istruttivi e informativi per li Signori Giovanni Abbondi e Antonio Airoldi, Deputati della Sagra Congregazione, per riferire sopra li articoli contenuti nel Restto [sic] / Per l'Università de Macellari / Istruzione sopra l'articolo primo relativo all'agnellatura della stagione 1792 / con sommario e specchio dimostrativo', inc. (f. 2) 'Non vi ha alcun arte, che maggiormente interessi la Protezione delle Leggi, quanto l'Arte esercitata da Macellari', expl. (f. 47v) 'intento a prosperare le arti, l'interno commercio e la popolazione'. With additional papers and accounts (ff. 48-55), marked 'A-H', including: - (a) ff. 48-50, copy of two notes to the President of the Grascia from Cardinal Vitaliano Borromeo, respectively dated April and Nov. 1792; - (b) f. 55, table of the lambing season 1792. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '82' in pencil in upper margin of f. i. Purchased from R. H. Evans, 8 December. 1830, lot 82 (?).
Paper; ff. 54+ii, plus 1 unfoliated blank after f. 54. 277 x 197mm; f. 55 a large folded sheet: 491 x 610mm. Horizontal catchwords on each page. One Italian hand. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards.
