PONZIANO FARGNA: Relazione of the Annona; 1724. Italian and Latin. Copy. The relazione is the budget report for the years 1718-1724 to the Congregation of the Annona, the institution in charge of the provisioning of Rome and the provinces. The relazione was issued at the end of the mandate of Monsignor Giulio Imperiali as Prefect of the Annona. Inc. (f. 3) 'La Sacra Congregazione sopra l'Annona in essecuzione del Motu Proprio di Nostro Signore', expl. (f. 14) 'che somministra il vitto umano / Pontiano Fargna'. It is preceded by (f. 2v) copy of a chirograph by Alexander VIII, dated 6 Nov. 1689, in Latin. Contemporary table of contents (ff. 1-2) entitled 'Indice di quello contiene la presente relazione su lo Stato attivo e passivo dell'Annona'. Old shelfmark in very faint ink '267' in lower left corner of front pastedown. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. Purchased from R. H. Evans, 8 December. 1830, lot unknown.
Paper; ff. 14+ii. Old pagination in ink '1-23' (ff. 3-14). 320 x 222mm. Horizontal catchwords on each leaf. One Italian hand. 18th-cent. Italian binding of full vellum; covers decorated with gilt-tooled double-fillet frame.
