Anonymous description of the Chapel of St. Charles Borromeo in the Roman church of St. Mary in Vallicella (also known as the Chiesa Nuova). The description was offered to Cardinal César d'Estrées, Bishop of Laon, in 1679, and the present MS. was possibly the presentation copy. Dedication (f. 1) 'All'eminentissimo e reverendissimo Signore Padrone Colendissimo il Signor Cardinale d'Estrees / Parigi', repeated on f. 2, inc. (f. 15) 'come in si poco tempo habbia potuto raccogliere tanti tesori dall'Italia. E qui ... m'inchino alla sua sacra porpora. Roma 20 giugno 1679 / Di Vostra Eminenza ... servitore N. N.'. Dedications (ff. 1, 2) and initial (f. 2) in letters of gold. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '155' in pencil in upper left corner of f. 1.
