DISPATCHES to Francesco and Taddeo Barberini; 1643-1644. Italian. Copies. Register of dispatches from Perugia to Cardinal Nepote Francesco Barberini, Secretary of State of Pope Urban VIII Barberini (1623-1644), and to his brother Prince Taddeo Barberini, Prefect of Rome from 22 Dec. 1643 to 2 Aug. 1644 (fourth day after the death of Urban VIII). Including a letter (ff. 145-146v) to Cardinal Antonio Barberini, Cardinal of San Onofrio and brother of the Pope, and one (f. 105v) to Cardinal Giovanni Stefano Donghi, cleric of the Apostolic Chamber. Possible authors of the dispatches are Giovanni Domenico Moneglia (or Moniglia), governor of Perugia, or the apostolic representative Ottaviano Carafa. Title (f. 1; repeated on ff. 54, 98, 131, 174) 'Lettere / All'Eminentissimo Padrone e all'Eccellentissimo Prefetto', inc. (f. 2) 'Al signor Cardinal Padrone li 22 dicembre 1643 / In Civita Castellana non ho trovato ', expl. (f. 208) 'forsi il Borro corisponderà con ordini proprii'. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. Purchased from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot unknown.
