GASPARE ORIGO (?): Dispatches to Cardinal Savio Millini; 1689-1690. Italian. Collection of dispatches (unsigned) to Cardinal Savio Millini (or Mellini), Archbishop of Orvieto (1681-1694), sent from Rome to Orvieto by a member of his household. The name of the author, allegedly Gaspare Origo, is noted by another hand in the MS. title (paper slip pasted onto f. 1) 'Lettere di nuove del Signor Gasparo Origo'. The dispatches are dated 9 Feb. - 25 June 1689, 25 March - 14 May 1690. A collection of dispatches sent by Cardinal Millini from Spain in Add. 8704. Inc. (f. 2) '9 febraro 1689 - Roma / Do principio ad obedire si nello scrivere come nel modo prescrittomi', expl. (f. 115) 'Roma 14 maggio 1690 ... Il marchese Suarez è divenuto coppiere e segretario d'ambasciata del signor Cardinale Ottobono'. The note 'Orvieto' on lower left corner of first leaves of most dispatches. The MS. also includes (ff. 30-30v, 54-57v, 61-61v, 69-72) six unsigned letters to Millini, written by two different hands. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '640' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown and upper right corner of f. 2. Purchased, together with Add. 8531 and 8592, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 640 (part).

Paper; ff. 115, plus 13 unfoliated blanks throughout. circa 222 x 158mm. One Italian hand: Gaspare Origo(?). Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards.
