GUIDO PANCIROLI: Annals of Reggio Emilia; 1560. Italian translation by Giovanni Boschi, 1694. Copy. Guido Panciroli (1523-1599), jurist and writer, wrote his chronicle of the town of Reggio Emilia, his town, from the foundation to the year 1560, or Rerum Regiensium Libri VIII, around 1560. The present MS. contains the translation into Italian by Giovanni Boschi, commissioned by Carlo Gonzaga, Count of Novellara, and completed in 1694 (see colophon, f. 490). According to Boschi (f. 490), the translation was based on a MS. copied from the original by the notary Giovanni Carlo Canova in 1611. Panciroli's work was published for the first time in the Italian translation by P. Viani as Storia della città di Reggio di Guido Panciroli (Reggio Emilia, 1846), B.L. copy 10131.d.11. The original Latin text was revised and published one year later by A. Lodi as Guidi Pancirolii ... rerum historicarum patriae suae libri octo (Reggio Emilia, 1847), B.L. copy 804.d.27. For Panciroli see Viani, op.cit.; also G. Ferrari, Memoria storica della vita e degli scritti di Guido Panciroli (Reggio Emilia, 1869). Title (f. 1) 'Annali di Reggio del Signor Dottor Guido Panciroli Reggiano raccolti dalla Fondatione di detta Città sino all'anno 1561 et in otto libri diligentemente divisi / Tradotti dalla latina nella nostra lingua l'anno 1694', repeated almost identically on f. 71. Preface (ff. 72-75) 'Prefatione del Signor Dottor Guido Panciroli a suoi Cittadini / Per due principalissime cause trovo io ... e finalmente voi stessi conosciate. State sani / In Padoa li 14 di genaro 1560', inc.
