GUIDO PANCIROLI: Annals of Reggio Emilia; 1560. Italian translation by Giovanni Boschi, 1694. Copy. Guido Panciroli (1523-1599), jurist and writer, wrote his chronicle of the town of Reggio Emilia, his town, from the foundation to the year 1560, or Rerum Regiensium Libri VIII, around 1560. The present MS. contains the translation into Italian by Giovanni Boschi, commissioned by Carlo Gonzaga, Count of Novellara, and completed in 1694 (see colophon, f. 490). According to Boschi (f. 490), the translation was based on a MS. copied from the original by the notary Giovanni Carlo Canova in 1611. Panciroli's work was published for the first time in the Italian translation by P. Viani as Storia della città di Reggio di Guido Panciroli (Reggio Emilia, 1846), B.L. copy 10131.d.11. The original Latin text was revised and published one year later by A. Lodi as Guidi Pancirolii ... rerum historicarum patriae suae libri octo (Reggio Emilia, 1847), B.L. copy 804.d.27. Text divided into eight books (ff. 75v, 128, 177v, 237, 299, 350, 392v, 438v), with running titles. Contemporary exhaustive alphabetical index (ff. 1-70v), entitled 'Indice delle cose notabili contenute in questa opera'. 'B.1.' in pencil at upper centre of f. i verso.
