The MS. contains the relazioni of Savoy by the Venetian Ambassadors Francesco da Molin (art. 1, ff. 1-16), Francesco Barbaro (art. 2, ff. 17-51), Girolamo Lippomano (art. 3, ff. 52-81v), Francesco Priuli (art. 5, ff. 84-136v), and Marco Foscarini (art. 13, ff. 213-278v). It also includes a copy of an undated agreement between the King of Spain and the Swiss Cantons (art. 4, ff. 82-83), the pedigree of King Victor Amadeus I of Sardinia (art. 6, f. 137), relazioni by the consultants to the Venetian Senate Scipione Ferramosca, Ludovico Bartelli, Bertollo, (arts. 7-8, ff. 138-176v), collected information on Savoy (1630-1686) prepared for the Venetian Ambassador Sebastiano Foscarini (art. 9, ff. 177-204v), an anonymous relazione of the arrest of King Victor Amadeus I of Sardinia ordered by his son Charles Emmanuel I (art. 10, ff. 205-209), a letter from Christine of France, widow of Duke Victor Amadeus I of Savoy, to her subjects (art. 11, f. 209v), and letters to Doge Alvise Pisani from the Ambassadors Marco Foscarini and Francesco Venier, Cardinal Alessandro Albani and King Charles Emmanuel II of Sardinia regarding the restoration of diplomatic relations between Savoy and Venice (art. 12, ff. 210-212v). Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '334' in pencil in upper left corner of f. 1. Purchased, together with Add. 8571, 8594, 8686, 8701, 8805, and 8806, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 334 (part).
Paper; ff. 278+ii, plus one unfoliated blank after ff. 51, 176, one interleaved small leaf after f. 64, five blanks after f. 136, and two after f. 146. Composite volume; arts. 3 and 13 seemingly from the same MS. 290 x 205mm. Several Italian hands. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards. Edges sparsely mottled in red and black for arts. 3 and 13.
