CHRONICLE OF VENICE, from its origins to 1485; 18th cent. Italian. Inc. (f. 2) 'Historia di Venetia, sino ad Agostino Barbarigo, di tutto quello occorssi al Senato Veneto, sin l'anno 1485', expl. (f. 186) 'furono cominciati ad elegersi li 23 Inquisitori'. The text is preceded by the title (f. 1) 'Storia Veneta Secreta Dall'Origine di Venezia sino all'Anno=1485'. In reality the chronicle continues up to the end of the dogado of Agostino Barbarigo in 1501 (ff. 182v-186). The MS. is briefly described by Foligno, anno 5, t. x (1905), pt. i, no. xv, pp. 107-108. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '46' in pencil in upper left corner of f. 1. Purchased, together with Add. 8573, 8574 and 8575, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 46 (part).
Paper; ff. 186+vi. Contemporary foliation in ink, 1-188, comprising last two blank leaves. 296 x 203mm. Quarter binding of vellum with marbled paper covers.
