Domenico Mocenigo: Letters to the Doge of Venice Francesco Morosini; 1690-1692. Italian. Copies. The forty-six letters are the reports by Mocenigo as comander general of the Venetian army operating in Rumania from 6 Dec. 1690 to 1 January 1692. Inc. (f. 1) 'Serenissimo Principe / Stabilite con sollecitudine in breve giro di tempo', expl. (f. 144) 'senza cui non si possono condurre l'operazioni d'un Attacco. Grazie. Romania Primo Zenaro 1691. S.N.M.V.' The MS. is described by C. Foligno, ‘Codici di materia veneta nelle biblioteche inglesi’, in Nuovo Archivio Veneto, n.s., 6, t. xii (1906), pt. ii, no. cxlv, pp. 345-346. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '334' in pencil in upper left corner of f. i. Purchased, together with Add. 8402, 8403, 8550, 8571, 8686, 8701, 8805, and 8806, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 334 (part).
Paper; ff. 144+ii. 264 x 194mm. Each letter numbered at its beginning with an Arabic number in the left margin. Horizontal catchwords on each leaf. Quarter binding of vellum with marbled paper covers.
