CORRESPONDENCE between Venetian Provveditori in Dalmatia and Turkish authorities in Bosnia; 1705-1708. Italian. Copies. The correspondence includes letters of Giustin da Riva, Provveditore Generale of Dalmatia and Albania, and Ifrahim Pasha and Isman Pasha, Beylerbey of Bosnia, relating to territorial and economic issues. Inc. (f. 2) 'Adi 17 Giugno 1705 In Zara / Glorioso de Comandanti de la Nazione Christiana', expl. (f. 166v) 'Knin li 20 Aprile 1708 / Vostro Affezionatissimo Dobratine An. Canoffietti'. The title (f. 1) gives a general indication of contents: 'Corrispondenze / con Turchi di Giustin da Riva Proveditor General / di Dalmatia / Dà 17 Giugno 1705, sino ultimi Marzo 1708'. Marginal notations at beginning of some letters (ff. 2-32v) giving indication of authors and recipients. The MS. is mentioned in Markotic, p. 268. Armorial bookplate of Bernardo di Antonio Nani (front pastedown; for the Nani bookplate see Bragaglia, vol. ii, no. 655: c. 1750). Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '356' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8610-8613, 8614-8615, 8616, 8618, 8619, and 8620-8622, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 356 (part).
Paper; ff. 165+ii, plus nineteen unfoliated blanks (5 at beginning and 14 at end). Modern foliation in pencil 1-166 (followed here), omitting no. 101. 299 x 220mm. Vertical catchwords on each leaf. Italian hand. 18th-cent. binding of mottled brown leather with gilt-tooled spines in compartments; mottled edges.
