(f. 3) 'Discours sur le mœurs des habitans des Isles Ioniennes / Précedé de quelque remarques critiques et philosophiques / Il y a dans la nature humaine un fond de grandeur', expl. (f. 15v) 'frapper d'admiration la postérité la plus reculée'. Presented by the author to the Hon. Frederick North in 1810, with a note of dedication (f. 1), 'Présenté à S. De le Lord Fréderic North comme trés-humble hommage et à titre de faible tribut da, en toute justice, à son mérité trés élevé / par Denis Vouzzanessy / Zante l'an 1810', and a letter (f. 2), inc. 'Addresse d'homage de l'auteur a S. De le Lord Fréderic North / Seigneur Trop honoré je me reigarderai si ce faible travail de mon esprit', expl. 'se perpétuent dans tous les siecles'. The MS. is mentioned in Elena Angelomati-Tsougharaki, Ta Taxidia tou Lordou Guilford stin Anatoliki Mesogeio (Athens, 2000), p. 59. Armorial bookplate (front pastedown) of 5th Earl of Guilford, with shelfmark L/17/C (top left corner of bookplate). '175' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8624, 8628, 8632, 8634, 8639, and 8640, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 175 (part).
Paper; ff. 16+vi. Modern foliation in pencil 1- 15 (followed here), omitting one leaf after f. 6. Old pagination in ink 1- 28 (ff. 3-15v). 215 x 154mm. Main text on half-page columns. 19th-cent. quarter binding of vellum with marbled paper covers.
