RELAZIONE OF THE ISLAND OF CHIOS; 1810. Italian. Account of the island with geographical description of it and information on finances and trade. Apparently complited by Domenico Luigi Santi, priest of Chios (see Kanellakē, op. cit. below, p. 488). The MS. is entitled (f. 1) 'Breve Relazione dell'Isola di Scio / 1810'. Inc. (f. 2) 'Colla maggior brevità a dar m'accingo le più esate notizie', expl. (f. 14) 'e stimerò ben pagati i miei sudori'. It is mentioned by Hasluck, p. 202. The text was published in Greek translation from a different Italian MS. by K. N. Kanellakē in Chiaka Analekta (Athens, 1890), pp. 485-515. Armorial bookplate with shelfmark 'L/7/D' (front pastedown) and book-stamp (f. ii) of the Hon. Frederick North, later 5th Earl of Guilford. Purchased from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot no. undetected.
Paper; ff. 14+ii. Old pagination in ink 3-25 (ff. 2-13v), repeating no. 19. 207 x 154mm. Horizontal catchwords on each leaf.
