RELAZIONI OF CONSTANTINOPLE, ETC.; 1637-1745. Italian and French. Mostly copies. Partly imperfect. Each item numbered later with a roman numeral at beginning. Two tables of contents (ff. 1, 141). The MS. is described by Foligno, anno 6, t. xi (1906), pt. ii, no. civ, pp. 191-192. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. Purchased, together with Add. 8645, 8651, 8652, 8653, and possibly 8646, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 358 (part).
Paper; ff. 236+ii, plus 23 unfoliated interleaved blanks. Composite MS, possibly a British Museum arrangement from two different volumes in lot 358. Modern foliation 1-234 (followed here), omitting one leaf after ff. 9 and 56. 326 x 228mm. Several Italian hands.

V.V. la famosa solevazione occorsa questi giorni passati nella Reggia di Costantinopoli ... Smirne 5 Agosto'. Ambassador Lorenzo Soranzo and Bailo Ascanio Giustinian are mentioned on f. 7v.
2. ff. 9-9v. 'L'Imperio Ottomano, Serenissimo Prencipe, Illustrissimi et Eccellentissimi signori, non è altro che un misto di senso, di Politica, e di fasto, e di arroganza'.
7. ff. 148-177. Relazione of Dalmatia; [1683?]. Inc. 'Nel corso di questo tempo in consonanza delle gravi indolenze'. The text mentions (f. 156v) the death of grand vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha (1676-1683), the subsequent election (f. 159v) of grand vizier Kara Ibrahim Pasha (1683-1688), and (f. 162) the Venetian Secretary at Constantinople Giovanni Cappello (1683-1684).
8. ff. 178-197v. [Giovanni Morosini di Alvise]: Relazione of Constantinople; [1680]. Imperfect. Inc. 'Serenissimo Prencipe / Le grandezze della Casa Ottomana fabricate in gran parte sopra le disaventure'. Corresponding to the text printed in Barozzi - Berchet, s. v, Turchia, p. ii (Venice, 1872), pp. 199-216 (the complete text covering pp. 199-248).
9. ff. 198-201. Fragment of relazione of Constantinople; n.d. Inc. '...e di questo viaggio non mi stenderò a dire', expl. 'accompagnati da più di 280 cavalli fra quelli delle Corti loro, et altri Mercanti'. Mentioning a Bailo Barbaro, possibly Marcantonio (bailo at Costantinople 1567-1571).

A description and two maps of the Peloponnese by Pini, also dated 1703, are to be found in Add. 41304, formerly a Guilford MS., bought by Payne at R. H. Evans's sale on 8 Dec. 1830, lot 363 (part), and deposited in the British Museum by Connop Thirlwall, Bishop of St. David's.
