PIERO CIVRAN: Account-book of expenses at Constantinople; 1679-1681. Italian. Copy. The accounts cover the period 30 July 1679 - 13 Nov. 1681, when Piero Civran was bailo at Constantinople. Inc. 'Spese diverse aconto di Serenissima tenendo conti in Reali effettivi in Virtù della parte del Eccellentissimo Senato in marzi 1639 facte di me Piero Civran Bailo à Costantinopoli'. The accounts were signed by Giuseppe Zorzi, the ragionato or treasurer of the Venetian Embassy in Constantinople. Piero Civran presented his relazione of Constantinople to the Venetian Senate in 1682 (published in Barozzi - Berchet, s. v, Turchia, p. ii (Venice, 1872), pp. 249-285). The MS. is described by Foligno, anno 6, t. xii (1906), pt. ii, no. cxxxii, p. 335. Armorial bookplate of 5th Earl of Guilford (front pastedown). '358' in pencil in top left corner of second modern flyleaf, verso. Purchased, together with Add. 8645, 8649, 8652, 8653, and possibly 8646, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 358 (part).
