REGISTER OF PROPERTY RESTITUTIONS BY CHARLES I OF ANJOU IN NAPLES; 1276-1277. Latin. Copy, 18th cent. The MS. is a copy of an archival register in the Regia Camera della Sommaria in Naples. The register lists expropriated properties returned to the original owners, mainly ecclesiastical institutions, during the reign of Charles I of Anjou, King of Sicily and Naples (1266-1285), Sept. 1276 - Aug. 1277 (Indiction V). The list was possibly one of the lists of financial income and outcome compiled around 1280 by the treasurers or magistri rationales of the royal administration; see J. Dunbabin, Charles I of Anjou. Power, Kingship and State-Making in Thirteenth-Century Europe (London-New York, 1998), p. 72. Title (f. 1) 'Exemplum processus Reintegrationis bonorum factae per Regem Carolum I, anno V. Indictionis qui quidem est Annus 1276. Qui processus conservatur in Archivo Regalis Camara Summaria obsignatus Littera I'. Inc. (f. 6) 'Processus Reintegrationis quorundarum bonorum facta tempore Regis Caroli Primi qui conservatur in Archivo Regiae Camarae / fol. 1 vassal qui debentur ab ipsis vassallis eidem Arch[...]po videlicet Judayce Salerni in planatico Iudeorum et dirictura olij', expl. (f. 77) 'dictae terrae ... locantur annuatim quae terrae / Finis'. Preceded (ff. 2-5) by a table containing alphabetical lists of abbots, abbesses, archbishops, counts, bishops, priors, witnesses, and churches. Armorial bookplate of 5th Earl of Guilford with shelfmark 'L/16/B' (front pastedown). '59' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8670, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 59 (part).
