Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 242 (part).
1. ff. 1-3v. 'Nomi di tutti i Vicerrè di Napoli quali Cominciarono lanno 1505', list of Viceroys in Naples 1505-1630; n.d. Inc. '1505 Consalvo Ernaneds di [C?]asa d'Aghilar'[i.e. Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, son of P. Fernández de Aguilar], expl. '1630 ... Il Duca d'Alba andò tanto all'entrata, quanto all'uscita a destro del Cardinale'.

Inc. '1517 Essendo Vicerre in Sicilia il Duca di Monteleone della Illustrissima famiglia Pignatella', expl. 'ha servito in cosa alcuna hebbe mille ducati'. 3. ff. 26-104v. 'Segue l'Historia di Notaro Antonino Castaldo', chronicle of Naples from 1532 to 1571; [bef. 1590]. Inc. 'Havendo io dopo qualche Consideratione, risoluto nel animo mio di scrivere', expl. 'darò con questa allegrezza fine à questo quarto libro lassiando all'Historici illustri la narratione de' seguito dopoi [sic]'. The chronicle covers events from the appointment as viceroy of Don Pedro Alvarez de Toledo, Marqués de Villafranca, in 1532 to the arrival of Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle as the new viceroy in 1571. It includes accounts of the riots of 1547 against the Spanish attempts to set up an Inquisition Court in Naples and of the battle of Lepanto. The text is divided into four books and includes copies of original royal documents. Several marginal notations. Printed in 1769 in Naples by Giovanni Gravier in his Raccolta, t. vi (see British Library copy at 661.k.7, where printed together with art. 2). For Antonino Castaldo see DBI, xxi, pp. 561-562.
