ACCOUNTS OF THE REVOLT OF NAPLES IN 1647; late 17th cent. Italian. Copies. A collection of papers relating to the revolt of Naples between 9 and 30 July 1647. The addressee is most probably the Spanish government. Title (f. 1) 'Lettere de Avvisi, et altre scritture continente la solevatione de Napoli, che seguì li 7 Luglio 1647'. Inc. (f. 2) 'Napoli 9 Luglio 1647 / La perniciosa revolutione di poveri gabella sopra i frutti di questa Città', expl. (f. 10) 'Napoli 30 Luglio 1647 ... del debito ossequio à sua Beatitudine'. A later note (f. 1, top margin) 'queste scritture furono ritrovate in casa mia / Marco Donato'. Old shelfmark '219' in ink in top left corner of front pastedown. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '242' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8662, 8664, 8665, 8667, 8668, 8673, 8677, 8678, 8679, and 8680-8681, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 242 (part).
Paper; ff. 10+ii, plus four unfoliated blanks after f. 1. 265 x 198mm. Horizontal catchwords almost on each page. One Italian hand.
