Exemplars (ff. 1-19v) of papers related to the Burrelli family of Benevento from medieval records (1191-1331) of Kings Frederick II, Charles I of Anjou, Charles II, and Robert, in the royal archives of Naples and Sicily; attested by the royal notary Antonio Vincenzi, with his signature and official seal. Followed by notes (ff. 20-28v) copied from MS. chronicles of Roger II and William II of Sicily and from works printed between 1550 and 1626; attested by the royal notary Andrea Sapio, with his signature and notarial sign. Inc. (f. 1) 'In registro Imperatori Federici II De Anno 1239', expl. (f. 28v) 'a bellatoribus suis aggredi faciens vi coepit eandem. Quod &c'. Texts on ff. 20-20v and 21v are repeated respectively on ff. 28-28v and 25v. For the Burrelli or Borrello family see Crollalanza, i, 1886, p. 159. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '540' in pencil in top left corner of f. 1. Purchased, together with Add. 8719 and 8789, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 544 (part).
Vellum; ff. 30, plus one unfoliated interleaved leaf after ff. 11 and 14. Missing one leaf or possibly more after f. 19. 288 x 206mm. Round humanistic script by two Italian calligraphic hands.
