RELACIÓN OF SPAIN; 17th cent. Spanish. Copy. A miscellaneous collection of anonymous tracts, compiled to provide an account of Spain and primarily Madrid. Title (f. 1) 'Relacion breve de España, casa y corte de su Magestad y villa de Madrid, fecha el año de 1610'. The MS. is described in Gayangos, I, pp. 355-356, who states that the work must have been composed, not in 1610, as written in the title, but approximately 1616. He based his assertion on the fact that on f. 4 the author refers to Don Bernardo de Rojas y Sandoval, Archbishop of Toledo, as then living and overseeing the construction of the Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Sagrario, in the cathedral of Toledo. Armorial bookplate of 5thEarl of Guilford, with shelfmark 'L/16/B' (front pastedown). '254' in pencil in upper left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8685, 8687, 8689, 8700, 8703, 8705, 8708, from R. H. Evans, 9 Dec. 1830, lot 254 (part).
