Spanish. Title (f. 1) 'Relacion de Consultas Hechas por el Excelentisimo Señor Marques de Xelves Vyrrey de Aragon con los Consejos de la Real audencia sobre Cassos de la Guovernacion del Reyno y otras y de como se hizo su Rescivimiento y entrada en Caragoca'. The MS. is described in Gayangos, I, pp. 380-84. Stamp of the Colonna library 'Libraria Colonna' in red on ff. i, ii, 1, 77v, 81v. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '253' in pencil in upper right corner of f. i. Purchased, together with Add. 8682, 8683 and 8684, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 253 (part).
1. ff. 1-2v. 'Cosas que se acostumbran prevenir antes de la entrada del Virrey y orden que en ella se tiene y se hizo en la del Duque de Albuquerque', account of arrangements for the official reception of a Viceroy of Aragón in the city of Zaragoza and a description of the ceremonial proceedings, with particular reference to the reception given to the Duke of Albuquerque. Written as a guide for incoming viceroys at the request of Diego Carillo de Mendoza before his installation as Viceroy in 1614. Inc. 'Dos o tres dias antes de entrar el Virrey en Caragoça se dio razon por medio del advogado fiscal'.
2. ff. 2v-5. 'Relacion muy puntual y cierta de la entrada de los Excelentisimos Señores Marqueses de Xelves en Caragoca y del rescivimento que se les hizo', account of the reception given to Diego Carillo de Mendoza in Zaragoza on 17 Aug. 1614 as Viceroy of Aragón. Inc. 'Aviendose nombrado su Magestad por su Virrey lugarteniente y Capitan general en el reyno de Aragon'.
3. ff. 5-75v. Register Book of the official correspondence of Diego Carillo de Mendoza y Pimentel, Viceroy of Aragón, 3 Sept. 1614 - 24 July 1617, with some later marginal additions (f. 66v). Inc. 'Teniendo diversos avisos y memoriales su excelencia luego como entro en el cargo'.
4. ff. 80v-81. Description of the funeral procession and funeral of Juan Peralta, Archbishop of Zaragoza, 9 Oct. [1629].
Paper; ff. 82 + ii, 82 plus 9 unfoliated interleaved blanks. Modern foliation in pencil. 311 x 221mm. Written in four different Spanish hands: (a) ff. 1-20v; (b) ff. 10, 20v-75v; (c) ff. 76-79v; (d) ff. 66v, 80-82. Binding of quarter vellum with green marbled covers.
