FERNANDO CORRÊA DE LACERDA: Catastrophe de Portugal; circa 1669. Italian transl. The Italian translation of a polemic work on the reign and deposition of King Alphonso VI of Portugal written in Portuguese by Dom Fernando Corrêa de Lacerda, Bishop of Oporto and counsellor of Pedro, the Prince Regent. The aim of Lacerda's work was to justify the action of Pedro, who in 1667 had deposed and imprisoned his brother Alphonso VI and assumed the regency. The Italian translation of Lacerda's work is here attributed to Maino Corvioni Caggiano. The original text in Portuguese was published under the pseudonym of Leandro Dória Cáceres de Faria as Catastrophe de Portugal na deposição d'el Rei D. Affonso o Sexto, et subrogação do Princepe D. Pedro o Unico, justificada nas calamidades publicas, Escrita para justificação dos Portugueses, por Leandro Dorea Caceres e Faria (Lisbon: Acusta de Miguel Manescal mercador de Liuros na Rua Nova, 1669); B.L. copy 281.e.31. Inc. (f. 4) 'Catastrophe di Portogallo / Come la fama degl'humani avvenimenti', expl. (f. 249v) 'l'intiero Mondo la total Ditione dell'eterno suo Imperio'.
