TRACT ON THE MARRIAGES OF ALPHONSO VI AND PEDRO OF PORTUGAL; [1668?]. Italian. Copy. An anonymous tract on the annulment of the marriage of King Alphonso VI to Mary Frances Elisabeth of Savoy, pronounced on 24 March 1668, and the legitimacy of her subsequent marriage to Alphonso's brother, the Prince Regent Pedro, on 2 April of the same year. A French text with similar title, which states that the tract was presented to Pope Clement IX, is cited in A. A. Dória, A Rainha D. Maria Francisca de Sabóia (1646-1683). Ensaio biográfico (Oporto, 1944), p. 405. Clement IX confirmed respectively the annulment and legitimacy of the two marriages with his brief of 10 Dec. 1668 (see Add. 8712, art. 15, ff. 192-194). The present MS. is entitled (f. 1) 'Ragioni sopra la nullità del Matrimonio di D. Alfonzo Rè di Portugallo, e la validità del Matrimonio di D. Pietro Principe di detto Regno'. Inc. (f. 2) 'Tre sono le presenti cose da considerare nell'affare di Portugallo della Maestà della Regina. / Prima. Quello, ch'è passato nel suo primo Matrimonio con il Rè Alfonso / Seconda. La nullità di detto Matrimonio. / Terza. il suo secondo Matrimonio con il Principe Don Pietro / Sopra la prima sono da ponderarsi', expl.
